Amberley, where it all began...

The horse that changed my life and helped me to realise my life purpose…

This is Amberley, a 15 year old Warmblood mare. She is sired by Tallents Asa. His sire was the famous Danish Stallion Altantus, one of the foundation sires of the British Warmblood Society. Atlantus produced many exceptional competition stock and more Select and medal winning progeny than any other British based stallion.

Amberley was a gift from my parents for my 21st Birthday. She was bought with dressage in mind as I had a keen interest in classical dressage. She was only 8 months old when we got her and soon proved to be a challenge!

As it turned out, Amberley had no desire to do dressage at all. We had many lessons head-shaking and bucking around the arena and I knew that I had to find a way to help her. The two of us were at a stage where neither of us were doing what we wanted. I had decided that I didn’t want to work in an office so in 2000 I retrained in aromatherapy at the Raworth International in Dorking Surrey. In 2001 I trained in Reiki with Dr Alan Sweeney and became a Reiki Master Teacher.

Amberley’s problems increased as she was diagnosed with the beginnings of kissing spines, and not long after this she had her first attack of laminitis. All of these problems have caused me to look into alternative ways of managing and caring for a horse with problems. I have been down many roads, some of which helpful and some not, but I have learnt a tremendous amount along the way.

I have tried so many alternatives to help my horse that I have often joked that I should write a book called “Amber the Alternative Horse”. Maybe one day I will, but for now this website is a reflection of our journey to-date and aims to provide you with information on saddles, dentistry, biting and riding bitless, barefoot and hoofcare, natural horsemanship, clicker training as well as holistic therapies and Equine Touch.

I am currently studying the Equine Touch and, having completed all 3 levels, I am currently undertaking case histories to become a Practitioner. If you are interested in your horse being a case study please do contact me.
